The earliest references to the village of Bod are from the Neolithic period. The village of Bod is mentioned in documents dating from the 13th century, around the year 1211 when the Transylvanian Saxons from Ron and Mosel colonised the area. The first centre of development in Bod was around the Evangelical Church.

The village was set on fire and destroyed several times by the Cumans and Tatars around the year 1241. The name of the village originated from the German word “Brenndors” (the burnt village). In 1889 the Sugar Works at Bod was set up and this was the time when the old town was set tup (known as Colony Bod).

The administrative territory of the village is located in the central part of Barsei Basin, where the Olt river emerges from a narrow pass, going beyond Lempes Hill by the mountains of Baraolt with the following geographic coordinates: 25’ and 25’ degree 41” Southern longitude.

At present Bod is made up of 2 parts, Village Bod and Old Bod (also called Colony Bod). The residential area is Village Bod and it is located 14km North of Brasov.

“Over the past year, as Mayor of Bod, I have embarked on an ambitious programme to enhance the quality of life in the village through the provision of an improved potable water system, a new sewage treatment facility and other environmental services.

Previously (in 2005) the village had drawn up a plan for an extensive residential and community development at the southern edge of the village where the attractive sylvan setting of the village and the surrounding vista of the Transylvanian Alps would be best appreciated.

Consequently, I am happy to acknowledge this welcome investment in our historic and long established village.  I look forward to the employment opportunities it will create, and to the housing development which will help to further invigorate the life of our village and enable many of our young people to build a more prosperous and sustainable future in their local area”

 

„În ultimul an, în calitate de primar al Bodului, m-am angajat într-un program ambiţios pentru îmbunătăţirea standardului de viaţă în cadrul comunei noastre prin asigurarea unui sistem imbunatatit de apă potabilă, a unei noi staţii de tratare a apelor şi altor servicii de mediu.

Anterior (în 2005) oraşul a întocmit un plan pentru dezvoltarea intensivă a spaţiilor rezidenţiale şi comunitare în partea de sud a comunei, încadrat de păduri atrăgătoare şi de unde poate fi admirat peisajul muntos din Transilvania.

În consecinţă, primesc cu mult entuziasm această investiţie binevenită în comuna noastră istorică şi cu vechime. Se vor crea oportunităţi de muncă, iar prin construcţia de locuinţe se va contribui la revigorarea vieţii comunei noastre, ajutând mulţi tineri să-şi construiască un viitor mai prosper şi susţinut la nivel local”.
